We had these porcelain hinged king cake boxes specially made to represent the traditional New Orleans king cakes, decorated in purple, green and gold, the Mardi Gras colors. Served in New Orleans (and, of course, in France) from Kings Day (Epiphany) to Mardi Gras, king cakes are so much a part of the Mardi Gras season. Inside our king cake is a porcelain baby, just like in the French king cakes, representing the baby Jesus. The porcelain box is 2 1/4 inches in diameter.
